There comes a time when your storage system can no longer reliably do its job. It's like a trusty old car that's finally started to fall apart—you hate to replace it, but you must. We recently experienced this in our NWC Inc. business applications lab and production environment with our Network Storage Solutions NAS (network-attached storage), which had stored all of NWC Inc.'s support files and nearline backups, along with most of the testing results and support programs for pur Green Bay, Wis., Real-World Labs~® (go to inc.networkcomputing.com for more on NWC Inc.). About six months ago, the NAS uncharacteristically began failing over to the backup from time to time for no apparent reason, and it assumed the disk was full. Although we had 10 percent free space, we were rapidly running low, and we needed the NSS NAS box to be up 24/7. We had to replace it with something larger and more stable.
