A ferry approaching Dover Harbour having been advised that traffic into the harbour had been temporarily suspended (wind) headed to the Downs where she would steam slowly. On a northerly leg in that waiting area, the ship did not turn in time and as a result she struck a charted wreck. The navigation was carried out almost entirely with reference to the Voyage Management System (VMS) considered as an Ecdis, whereas the company regulations prescribed that the VMS was intended only as an aid to navigation, and that the paper charts were the primary means of navigation. Different factors have contributed to the grounding : no formal passage plan in the waiting area, bad monitoring of the ship's progress on the chart and on VMS, distractions and interferences coming from outside, poor bridge management, lack of specific training on VMS. Having noticed that the wreck symbol on VMS had been misunderstood, we propose a single representation of dangerous wrecks on Ecdis, a clear representation that already exists.%Un ferry approchant du port de Dover ayant été averti de la fermeture temporaire du trafic entrant dans ce port (vent) fit route vers les Downs, où il allait faire des routes d'attente à allure réduite. En route vers le nord, dans la zone d'attente, le navire ne fit pas demi-tour à temps et talonna en conséquence sur une épave cartogra-phiée. La navigation était assurée presqu'uniquement au moyen du Voyage Management System (VMS) réputé être un Ecdis, alors que le règlement de la compagnie prescrivait que le VMS n'était qu'une aide à la navigation, et que les cartes papier devaient constituer le moyen premier de navigation. Différents facteurs ont contribué à ce talonnage : aucune préparation formelle de traversée dans la zone d'attente, mauvais suivi de la position du navire sur la carte et sur le VMS, distractions et interférences en provenance de l'extérieur, mauvaise organisation de passerelle, absence de formation spécifique sur VMS. Ayant noté que le symbole d'épave sur le VMS avait été mal interprété, nous proposons une représentation unique des épaves dangereuses sur Ecdis, en se servant d'un symbole clair qui existe déjà.
