摘要

The idea of creating a telescope mirror by spinning a shiny liquid such as mercury was proposed in 1850 by the Italian astronomer Ernesto Capocci. It was first tested in the early 1900s, but faced too many technical problems, and the idea was consigned to the dusty shelves of star-gazing history.
