Not all 'fat' fat is created equal: cells in some parts of the body may pump out more of the molecular signals that promote obesity-related disease. Visceral fat, which wraps around organs and can affect both the lean and obese, seems to be particularly problematic because it dumps signalling molecules directly into blood heading for the liver, the main site where glucose and fat are converted from one to another.
