Wren's largest surviving London church re-opens following renovation by Chichester Stoneworks

Although the medieval St Andrew's Church in Holborn, London, was untouched by both the Reformation and The Great Fire of London in 1666, by the late 17th century it was considered to be in need of renovation. That project fell to Sir Christopher Wren, who rebuilt so many of London's churches and other important buildings after The Great Fire, notably St Paul's Cathedral. But rather than renovate St Andrew's, he rebuilt that, too. The new church was constructed on roughly the same footprint as its medieval predecessor and was completed in 1687. Like many of London's churches, St Andrew's was badly damaged by bombing in World War Ⅱ and the job of rebuilding it then fell to the distinguished ecclesiastical architects Seely & Paget. Their work reached its conclusion in 1961, after which the church was reconsecrated as a non-parochial Guild Church.
