WA Department fined over elder's death

The Western Australia Department of Corrective Services has been fined $285,000 under the WA OHS Act over the death of an Aboriginal elder in 2008. Aboriginal elder Mr Ward had been transported from Laverton to Kalgoorlie in January 2008 in the back of a van in which the air conditioning was faulty or not working. He subsequently died from heat stroke.
