Short Handed Through Greece

The fall's first cold front with a bite had just come through the Aegean. As we busied ourselves preparing Cenou, our Freydis 46 Lerouge design catamaran from anchor mode to sailing vessel, the early morning sun failed to take the edge off the cold deck against our bare feet. While the sun-filled morning made its stand, it also gave us one last glimpse of Aya Irini, the bronze-age site overlooking Kea's anchorage. The archeological site's grassy knoll provided few clews to the common visitors that we are, but the near life-size terra-cotta female figurines found there left us lasting impressions. With the sun higher yet and the wind still absent, we pointed Cenou's bows out of the anchorage that sheltered us for five days and provided a haven for humans during the thousands of years they have occupied this mountainous Cyclades Island.
