Mercury (magnitude 0.5 to 1.7 to 5.5): From Virgo into Leo. For northern hemisphere observers, Mercury will begin the month above the west-southwest horizon at sunset and will set about 1/2 hour later; by midmonth Mercury will have descended into the glare of the Sun. For southern hemisphere observers, Mercury will begin the month high above the west-northwest horizon at sunset and will set about 2 hours later; as the month passes Mercury will descend toward the western horizon and will disappear into the glare of the Sun by the third week of September.
