Last Quarter January 2, New Moon January 10, First Quarter January 16, Full Moon January 24. Mercury (magnitude: -0.4 to 3.1 to 1.7): From Sagittarius into Capricor-nus into Sagittarius. For northern hemisphere observers Mercury will begin the month standing low above the southwest horizon at sunset and will set below the west-southwest horizon about 1 1/2 hours later; as the month passes Mercury will sink towards the setting Sun and will disappear into the glare of Sun before the end of the second week. Mercury will appear in the eastern morning sky before the beginning of the third week.
