Finally, we point out a few more as- pects relevant to the future efforts to- ward stimulated emission of Er in Si that haven not yet been properly addressed. The first one concerns the role of oxygen. It is well documented that he presence Of OH~- groups effectively quenches Er Luminescence. While the detailed mecha- Nism of that effect is not understood, both Oxygen and hydrogen are known to be Prominently available in silicon crystals.
