President obama was expected to name Ron Bloom to a new position that would set U.S. manufacturing policy. Earlier this year, Bloom replaced Steven Rattner as the car czar, head of the Treasury Department's Automotive Task Force. Bloom is a former United Steelworkers Union advisor and Lazard investment banker. Last summer, before he pulled his Brett Favre, GM's Bob Lutz suggested that the U.S. needs a permanent agency dealing with automotive and other manufacturing issues, like similar agencies throughout Western Europe, or Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry.
