IT'S fitting that the only problem we found with our long-term X3 was remedied shortly before the SUV left our fleet. So it goes. The problem? Delayed acceleration from a stop, something the X3 had done since the day I drove it home from the factory in South Carolina. Recently, an observant reader notified us that BMW released a software update for vehicles afflicted with "delayed engine response." After finding out our X3 was eligible for the update, I hurried to the dealer and dropped it off. A few days later, I picked up our refreshed SUV and exited the parking lot with the front tires spinning.
