Jerry Rio is one of those immaculate bachelors who folds his own laundry, drives a 22-year-old pickup that looks like it just came off the line and keeps his twin-inboard 35-foot express cruiser maintained to his own high standards. Rio, an experienced boater, enjoys nothing more than getting off work, racing the sunset out of Florida's St. Augustine Inlet and moonlight-cruising to another friendly inlet, where he'll drop the hook and then spend the night. He was doing jusf that-heading north to anchor inside Georgia's St. Mary's entrance-last spring when a bilge pump light went on, then another and yet another (yes, he has three).
