Washington, DC - The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been criticized for not disclosing data to the public about unsafe vehicles and defective parts under the Transportation Recall Enhancement, Accountability and Documentation (TREAD) Act. An audit from the Office of the Inspector General questioned their decision to limit certain information to the public from its Early Warning Reporting data collection system. This includes claims regarding personal injury, property damage claims and production numbers for light vehicles.
