The classic illustration of a fluid coupling shows two identical electric fans facing each other. One is turned on and blows air (a fluid) at the other, causing the second fan to rotate. Torque is transmitted from the powered "input" fan (impeller) to the shaft of the "output" fan (turbine) as the air strikes its blades.
