From a near nine-year high of 2,246 points in September, the Baltic Dry Index average for October was a four-month low of 1,826 points. It has since sunk further to 1,365 points at time of writing with all sizes contributing to the decline.The Capesize (180k dwt) 5 TC average dropped to the lowest level since June at $19,390/day on 11 November, down almost $5,000/day from the start of October, before finding support in recent days. Losses were greatest in the Atlantic where the fronthaul rate stands at just under $36,000/day compared with more than $52,000/day a month ago and the Pacific round-voyage is now at a premium to the Atlantic for only the second time in the last four and a half months.
