Sales for Breaking Lag 2012 Volumes

With 10 months of 2013 now past and few signs of any sustained rally in freight markets for most main ship types, it is surprising to see that sales for breaking lag 2012 volumes by a quite sizeable margin. By end-October, 862 ships totalling 36.5 mdwt (8.48mlwt) had been sold for scrap, against the 1,008 vessels of 47.9mdwt (10.18mlwt) that had been transacted in the first 10 months of last year. This constitutes a decline of 11.4 mdwt (-23.8%) from the record-setting volumes that had been sold in the same period of 2012.
