IMF Forecasts Cut As Growth Disappoints

Against a background of concerns over the state of leading European economies, falling equity markets as well as instability in Ukraine and the Middle East, the International Monetary Fund has trimmed many of its GDP forecasts. As a result, "disappointing" global economic growth is now projected at 3.3% in 2014 (compared with the January forecast of 3.7%) followed by 3.8% in 2015 (down from a projected 4.0% in January). This reflects (1) legacies of the pre-crisis boom and recession in the advanced economies still weighing on the recovery, plus (2) low potential growth. Investment around the world has been below expectation for some time, the IMF comments.
