Australia has been a key driver of clean tanker trade in Asia this year, as product imports have jumped following refinery closures and amid firm transport fuel consumption. SSY estimates that Australian product tanker import tonne-mile demand from January-July (the latest month for which import data is available) was 33% higher than in the same period last year. Australian government data shows that combined imports of diesel, gasoline and jet totalled 479K b/d in the first seven months of 2015, up 113K b/d y-o-y, which would be the equivalent of around an additional 14 MR cargoes a month.
