The 3.3-km extension of the Lisbon metro Red line from Oriente station to Lisbon international airport opened on 17 July.The line, with three stations, has been under construction since February 2007 at a cost of €218million. Many planned extensions of the Lisbon metro have been put on hold because of the country's economic problems - however, another short extension of the system is under construction. The extension of the Blue line from Amadora Este to Reboleira (for connection to the Sintra suburban line) is costing €39million and should be complete this year.
