Rail passenger miles in Wales have grown faster than the British average, according to Prof Peter Jones'analysis of the National Travel Survey. Comparing the results from NTS travel diaries in 1995-97 with 2008-10, he found that passenger miles on the National Rail network had increased by 54%. In Wales the equivalent figure was 187%. He cautioned that this was not a reliable statistic because it derived from the diaries of small numbers of people in Wales.
