FUNDING TO DOUBLE ESK VALLEY SERVICES

Approval by the North York Moors National Park for the construction of a new potash mine near Whitby has unlocked up to £6.75 million of funding to enable the doubling of the Middlesbrough -Whitby Esk Valley train service from four to eight trains a day. As part of its Section 106 commitments, York Potash has undertaken to provide £1.5 million over three years to subsidise the start-up of four additional services each way starting in December 2017.This would be followed, if necessary, by a further £250,000 a year for the following three years.
