VIRGIN'S SHREWSBURY ANNIVERSARY

A year after its introduction in the December 2014 timetable, Virgin Trains'direct service to the capital from Shrewsbury is thriving. The service was contained in Virgin's original 2012 franchise bid and was later written into its direct award agreement with the Department forTransport.Two return services are provided on Mondays to Saturdays, with a single out and back working on Sundays. The Class 221 Voyagers that work the Shrewsbury trains join or split from a second unit at Birmingham New Street (or occasionally Wolverhampton), enabling the trains to be worked as extensions of existing Euston -Wolverhampton services, with no need for additional paths on the West Coast main line.
