The Merseyrail concession, a joint venture between Serco and Abellio, reached the halfway point in its 25-year life in January 2016. It seemed an appropriate point for new Managing Director Jan Chaudhry-van der Velde to take stock. 'My predecessors have left a great inheritance,' he told Modern Railways.
