MARSTON VALE '230s' STRUGGLE

PASSENGERS ON the Marston Vale line between Bletchley and Bedford, who have endured significant disruption to their journeys, were invited to a 'Meet the Manager' session on board one of the troublesome Class 230 DMUs on 12 September to hear about plans to improve the service. Since their introduction on 23 April the Vivarail sets have struggled.Two of the three sets are required to operate the timetable, but many days have seen one or even no sets operational and buses regularly drafted in as cover. Monthly reliability tables have shown the sets delivering less than 500 miles per technical failure with no indication of improvement (Table 1).
