The materials handling systems in Canadian Tire's new distribution center were optimized to handle both full pallets and cartons for store replenishment. Despite the size of the facility, the processes and flow throughout the building are relatively simple. Receiving: The 1.5 million square feet of space is divided into four storage areas. Buildings 1 and 2 are for conveyable products' that can be handled by the conveyor and sortation system. Buildings 3 and 4 are for non-conveyables that are handled by fork and clamp trucks.
