Overstock.com was launched in 1999 to move merchandise left behind by the dotcom bust. Today, it's a reputable online retailer, offering more than 700,000 products, including high-quality jewelry, CDs and DVDs. At the company's 360,000-square-foot facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, fulfillment manager Dyke Simmons wanted to replace specialty boxes and paper mailers with automated equipment that would protect precious cargo and reduce time and labor in the process. "It's important for our jewelry to be packaged quickly and shipped in a tight-fitting package so there's minimal shifting and less damage," he says.
