Athearn's HO SD70MAC heavy duty road diesel locomotive offers amazing variety

This SD70MAC is the newest member of Athearn's growing family of Electro-Motive Division SD70-series diesel locomotives. It's a Genesis-series model of a big, heavy-duty freight locomotive that's offered in 11 versions which include North American cabs, six-wheel radial (steering) trucks, directional headlights, working ditch lights, and excellent railroad-specific details. The SD70MACs come ready-to-run with Athearn's quick-plug connector for easy installation of a Digital Command Control (DCC) decoder. Like most of Athearn's contemporary locomotives, the SD70MAC has a finely detailed plastic body with a heavy cast-metal chassis. It shares many body details and mechanical parts with the SD75I that was reviewed in the July 1999 Model Railroader and the SD70M in the November 2002 issue.
