Correct balance

I am writing in response to one of the letters from G. K. Bartlett, which was published in MEW No 174. The writer claims that MEW has 'deteriorated of late and has become somewhat simplistic'. As a new reader, I am in no position to comment on any deterioration that may have taken place over a long period of time. What I can say, is that I think the editorial balance is just right and that is something which must be difficult to achieve. New readers such as me find the 'simplistic' articles very useful indeed, and I have learned a great deal from them. I freely confess to not understanding some of the more advanced articles but I do hope that in the fullness of time they will appear less mysterious. A magazine such as MEW has to appeal to a wide spectrum of readers. It certainly meets the needs of newcomers to the hobby, and I suspect from the content of many of the articles, that it is also meeting the needs of the more advanced model engineer as well. So please, leave things just the way they are. You are doing a fantastic job.
