The chief executive of Cambridgeshire CC and Peterborough City Council, Gillian Beasley, has announced she will retire early next year. Ms Beasley put off her original retirement from October last year following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Ms Beasley has spent 38 years in local government. She was appointed chief executive of Peterborough in 2002, and took on the joint role at the county council in 2015. She said: 'I have been privileged to work with and lead a group of staff at both councils who are tireless in their efforts for people in Peterborough and Cambridgeshire, and nothing has demonstrated that more than the last 16 months during the pandemic when their work has been at the frontline of protecting and supporting local communities.' Ms Beasley received an OBE in the Queens New Year's Honours list in 2009 for services to local government, and has an honorary doctorate from Anglia Ruskin.
