Council was told of fire dangers before tragedy

Kensington & Chelsea LBC was warned of the dire consequences of a fire at Grenfell Tower years before the blaze that left 72 people dead, the inquiry into the tragedy has heard. The council's director of housing at the time of the fire, Laura Johnson, conceded she did not take action over recommendations made by a coroner following the 2013 inquest into the Lakanal House fire in Camberwell that claimed the lives of six people. She told the inquiry she 'should have had a conversation with the tenant management organisation' about training, evacuation procedures and refurbishment. Ms Johnson added: 'I did not take from it at the time that it was my responsibility to then arrange the training needs of personnel on these matters.'
