Chancellor Rishi Sunak's single-year Spending Review increased council funding for next year but already-made commitments will leave little more for subsequent years, finance experts have claimed. The Government announced a Spending Review focused on the COVID crisis and infrastructure that will increase councils' core spending by £2.2bn next year, although three-quarters of the extra cash will come from assumed council tax increases. A further £3bn has been allocated to pay for the pandemic.
