Extra cash has boosted councils, says Jenrick

The Spending Round has put local government on a 'far stronger and more sustainable footing for the future,' communities secretary Robert Jenrick has told The MJ. Local authority core spending power is projected by the Government to rise by 4.3% in real terms in 2020/21 - the biggest year-on-year real terms increase in a decade. Combined with announcements on high-needs funding for schools, public health funding and the increase to the NHS contribution to adult social care through the Better Care Fund, local authorities will be able to benefit from more than £3.5bn of additional resources.
