Unions have issued a fierce warning to council workers not to be taken in by no-win, no-fee lawyers, after it emerged that the most controversial of them, Stefan Cross, is now targeting London boroughs. The Newcastle-based solicitor has started advertising across the capital, in a bid to bolster his burgeoning number of equal pay cases. But Unison's London regional secretary, Linda Perks, said: 'It's laughable the way these no-win, no-fee lawyers claim to be the champion of women. 'All they do is concentrate on getting back pay for some women, not setting equal pay for the future,' she added. 'Their claims should be taken with a barrel of salt. They will take up to 30% of any cash they might win for them. Unison takes members' cases for nothing, and they get to keep every penny the union wins for them.'
