I am sure West Sussex CC will not be alone in seeing the proposed increases in Audit Commission fees as paying more for inspections which should be reducing (The MJ, 6 December 2007). Our view on the consultation is that a 17% hike in fees is nothing short of scandalous. West Sussex has just finalised a budget recommendation which, if approved, will see us delivering the lowest percentage increase in council tax in our part of the world since the tax was introduced in 1993 - and a rise that is dose to the increase in the Retail Price Index.
