The approach to neighbourhood panels outlined by Cllr Nick Cuff (The MJ, 24 January) is at odds with our experience with Surrey Police. This force has always welcomed and encouraged the involvement of frontline councillors in the panel process. As part of work being undertaken by the Surrey Improvement Partnership, the borough council working together with Surrey CC and the PCT, and with the full support of Surrey Police, is currently piloting neighbourhood panels which put the local councillor at the heart of the process.
