Slowly but surely, the western gateway into Durham is taking shape with modern architecture providing a bold contrast to the city's historic skyline. The latest and largest of these riverside developments is Milburngate, a 450,000 sq ft mixed-use scheme worth £200m that will include new apartments, a hotel, restaurants and offices. Allan Cook, managing director of Arlington Real Estate, which is leading the development, describes Milburngate as 'a huge scheme for a small city' and says it will help to broaden Durham's appeal to residents and visitors.
