Councils are at the ‘end of the queue' when it comes to receiving funding from the Treasury, the chief executive of Brighton & Hove Council has said. Speaking at the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives' summit in Brighton weeks after Prime Minister Theresa May declared the age of austerity over with a message to voters that there are ‘better days ahead,' Geoff Raw (pictured) was sceptical that it would mean a cash bonanza for local authorities. Mr Raw said the sector would have to wait to discover the impact of Mrs May's announcement, but, in the meantime, the unitary was 'constantly working' to help residents understand what the council could and could not do in a climate of austerity.
