Gaining public support for development plans is often not easy but for Haringey LBC recent proposals have been harder than most. Its plans for the Haringey Development Vehicle, a 50:50 joint venture with Lendlease, were approved by the council while the public protested outside -and amid pleas from the local MPs to reconsider. However, council leader Claire Kober is confident she is doing what is right for the local area. She explains: 'It is one of the biggest deals of its kind. It started two and a half years ago, looking at the scale of the housing crisis in our borough.' The scale is huge, with 50,000 families in temporary accommodation across the whole of London.
