Early years are vital to a child's development and life chances, so local authorities should be concerned that 49% of private day nurseries make a loss and closures are announced every week. Increases in business rates and the upcoming roll out of underfunded '30 hours free' childcare will place further pressure on our long-term financial sustainability.
