I am concerned that comments in the media, and from central government, in recent weeks, have framed all local authority property investment activity as irresponsible. At Portsmouth City Council we are creating a £183m portfolio with the objective of generating sustainable, long term income for local services. There is no material difference between our knowledge and expertise and that of any institutional UK fund or investment manager. Our market perception, including the depth of useful national contacts is second to none.
