Audit Commission abolition 'a mistake'

Abolishing the Audit Commission was a mistake, according to chair of the Public Accounts Committee, Margaret Hodge. Speaking to the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) annual conference in London last week, Ms Hodge said accountability was now so divided, it was becoming increasingly difficult to 'follow the taxpayers' pound'. Schools and health trusts are increasingly in deficit and 'we are dealing with a much more fragmented world'.
