The Care Quality Commission (CQC) is to hire another 200 staff to help support its inspection programme. The watchdog, which has been heavily criticised over how it monitors care home standards, said it would spend £4.5m on new recruits to support inspection teams between December and the end of March 2013. According to the commission, the new workers will work on more than 3,500 cases and carry out inspections at 'low-risk locations.
