A pay rise of more than 2% 'would be likely to result in redundancies,' employers have warned. In July, trade unions Unison, GMB and Unite demanded a 10% pay rise, a one-day increase in annual leave, a two-hour reduction in the working week, and a review of workplace stress and mental health. But the response from West Midlands Employers, seen by The MJ, read: 'Without exception, the West Midlands Employers membership is concerned about the financial impact of any award above 2% should the entire amount be funded locally. This is not only solely about the risk of lack of affordability leading to job cuts, which is obviously a primary concern. There is widespread feeling that these inevitable reductions in workforce numbers will further serve to increase workplace stress and mental health issues.'
