The Government is ready to discuss reform of local government in London, MPs have been told. However, devolution minister Jake Berry said it was for the London boroughs to put forward any case for reorganisation. In a Westminster debate last week, MP Andrew Rosindell, whose Romford constituency lies within the borders of Havering LBC, suggested that mayoral powers should be curtailed and boroughs bolstered. He argued funding should go directly to councils, and leaders should have the political responsibility for policing and the ability to take on the running of other public services such as health.
