MHCLG reveals plans to combat negative Revenue Support Grant

Marsham Street has come up with plans to plug a £153m financial hole faced by councils next year.A total of 168 councils had been facing negative Revenue Support Grant (RSG) in the next financial year, which would force them to hand cash to the Government.But in a consultation document published this week, the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) proposed to forego its 50% share of business rates to eliminate the £153m negative RSG total.
