Local government is not necessarily a field associated with superstition - unless you count senior managers dancing late at night to Stevie Wonder at the LGA Annual Conference - so kudos to Surrey CC for blaming a dip on the number of couples tying on the knot on the number 13. The county council revealed this week the number of people who got hitched at either a register office or hired wedding venue in Surrey fell by 3.5% last year. According to register office staff, the fall in numbers was largely due to couples wanting to avoid getting married in a year with the number '13'in it.
