North West manifesto unveiled

Directors of public health from the North West have published a manifesto containing 10 key priorities for cross-party consideration ahead of the next general election. Published 1 July, the North West Directors of Public Health Group (NWDsPH) claim the paper, entitled Top ten for Number Ten, could be used to formulate evidence-based policy both locally and nationally. Among its recommendations, the manifesto calls for the imposition of a minimum price of 50p per unit of alcohol, a duty on sugary drinks at 20p per litre and commitment to meet targets set by the Child Poverty Act 2010. 'Hopefully the information and startling statistics should result in some interesting conversations starting up,' said Abdul Razzaz, chairman of the NWDsPH.
