Cornwall Council has decided to defer its final decision on the controversial privatisation deal which cost the previous leader his job, in order to consider more options. Following a debate on 23 October, the council voted to put the plans on hold, with the vote returning to the full council at a later, unspecified date. The deal involved teaming up with BT in a joint venture which would part-privatise key services such as libraries, benefits and payroll in contracts worth up to £300m a year. Cornwall Council officials said the scheme could save the authority as much as £2.5m a year.
