Election list panic

Parliament is to ask for a change to the taw after ministers discovered councils were denied access to the full electoral register. An edited version, omitting details at the request of members of the public, is available for sale to anyone. But the complete list, containing details of all registered voters entitled to vote in parliamentary and council elections, may only be sold or supplied to certain, specified per- sons or organisations, for specific purposes. These include credit reference agencies, law-enforcement bodies and government departments, the Office for National Statistics and the British Library.
